Copy-editing
This is for you if the structure of your text is in good shape and you are now ready for an in-depth reading of each sentence. I will check your text for sense, clarity, accuracy, consistency and readability as well as checking for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation. I will also assess whether the language is suitable for the readership and point out any potentially offensive wording. I will make sure that there is a consistent style or impose your chosen house style, and I will code the structural elements of your text ready for your designer.
I will make changes to your text using Word (Track changes) and any comments or queries will be addressed to you using comment boxes.
Proofreading
This is the final quality-control check where any remaining errors of spelling, grammar, punctuation, style and design are spotted and corrected. It happens once the text is in its final layout but before publication. I will check your text for those last errors and make any minor changes for sense.
I can work on PDF (Adobe Acrobat) or on paper using the BSI symbols for proof correction (BS 5261 Part 2 2005).
