I, Nadine Catto, operating as Nadine Catto Editorial, offer freelance copyediting and proofreading services to businesses and individuals.

This policy describes how I use and protect the information you give me. If you are asked to provide information, it will only be used in the ways stated in this policy.

Why do I collect data from you?

I collect and use certain information about you in order to:

  • respond to your requests for information (e.g. quote for editorial services)

  • allow me to contact you while an editing project is ongoing

  • enable certain functions on this website

  • better understand how visitors use this website

  • invoice you and maintain records for tax purposes

  • as confirmation of our agreement, including terms and conditions

What information do I collect from you?

I collect the following information:

  • name

  • contact details ­– email, phone number, postal address

  • details about your project – e.g. word count, type of project, etc.

How do I use your data?

The data I collect is used as follows:

  • To respond to your enquiry (e.g. services, price, availability).

  • To record your agreement to the terms and conditions of my editorial services.

  • To invoice you and maintain records for tax purposes.

I will never use this data for marketing or promotion purposes without getting your permission in writing first (for example, to publish your testimonial for me on my website).

How do I use cookies?

My website uses cookies to support some functions and to provide data and analytics. It is powered by Squarespace, whose GDPR policy is online. You can use your web browser’s cookie settings to determine how my website uses cookies.

How do I collect your personal data?

  • By my website contact form (via Squarespace and email).

  • By email.

  • By phone or in person.

I will not share your information with another party unless I have your permission or am required to by law, or if somebody else needs to let you know that I am unexpectedly incapacitated.

How long do I keep your data for? 

Because many of my customers and clients work with me more than once, I do not delete data unless specifically requested to do so. 

  • HMRC requires me to keep records for ‘at least 5 years after the 31 January submission deadline of the relevant tax year.’

  • Please ask if you want me to delete or amend your records. As long as I’m complying with HMRC’s legal requirements, I’ll action your request immediately.

Who do I share your information with?

No one, unless you request that I do so in writing or HMRC elects to audit my business.

What are your data protection rights?

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access – You have the right to ask me for copies of your personal information. 

Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask me to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask me to complete information you think is incomplete. 

Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask me to erase your personal information in certain circumstances. 

Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask me to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances. 

Your right to object to processing – You have the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that I transfer the personal information you gave me to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, I have one month to respond to you.
